Product Alert: Encrypted Memory Sticks  23.11.2010

Sandisk have just withdrawn all Sandisk Cruzier flash drives from sale. Sandisk have stated that the SafeStick is not affected.

A "critical" security flaw has been discovered in the encryptable Sandisk Cruser USB flash drive. These devices were not only sold by Sandisk, but by Verbatim and other suppliers under OEM agreements.

A security company, Syss, learned while penetration testing the devices in January 2010, that the memory sticks could be "hacked" allowing anyone to access them without the password. The memory sticks were built and designed to conform to a very high level security standard used by government agencies, but suffered from the previously unknown design flaw.

See Sandisk's web page if you think that you have one of the affected memory sticks for advice and information about their upgrade offer to the SafeStick.

Thanks for this - I've got a Sandisk flash drive so I'd better check their site.
