The Problem(s) with Facebook  24.05.2010

Facebook has become synonymous with social networking. Unlike other 'social networking' sites I have used or known about, it seems to have some problems - two serious ones in my opinion.

The first is security and the results of 'malware' (such as viruses) being transmitting to users, due partly to Facebook's success and partly the design of certain areas of their web site.

The second issue is the lack of protecting the users' privacy plus how their information is used by Facebook to generate income. I have no problem with generating income this way, but it should be open and transparent.

Using social networking sites has rapidly become a method which is useful, if not essential for some, for communication and keeping in contract with friends, colleagues and customers. However, using social networking carries risks, often overlooked in the rush to keep up with current trends and connect.
